The state police said that at least one person was killed and 17 others injured when a car crashed into a crowd gathered at a Pennsylvania bar to support the victims of a recent deadly fire.

In a statement issued by Geisinger Hospital, they confirmed that they were providing care for more than 15 patients, including four who were in critical condition.

The Pennsylvania State Police were called to the area near the Intoxicology Department bar in Berwick at around 6:15 p.m. on Saturday, according to Trooper Anthony Petroski of the Pennsylvania State Police.

According to police, a vehicle “drove through a crowd at a community event and struck a person.”.

Then, Petroski said, the troopers received a call from a neighboring county about an alleged assault against a woman in Nescopeck County

A woman was found dead at the scene by officers when they arrived at the scene, he said. The man was detained by police, who said he was a suspect in both incidents, according to the police.

As of yet, the police have not identified the suspect or provide details about possible charges against him.

According to Petroski, investigators are attempting to determine whether or not the suspect intentionally drove into the crowd during the incident.

According to a statement released by the police, these investigations are currently very active.

There was a “mass casualty incident” at the bar on Saturday evening, according to Reliance Fire Company No. 1, which serves Berwick. Firefighters were on the scene for an hour and a half.

There is an ongoing incident in the area that will likely continue for some time, said the fire company on their Facebook page, asking people to stay away from the site.

A benefit was being held at the bar earlier this month for the families of those who lost their lives in a house fire in Nescopeck earlier this month.

As a result of the fire that broke out on Aug. 5, ten people, including three children, lost their lives, while three adults managed to escape without injury.

It is still unclear what caused the fire, which destroyed the home, to start in the first place.

On its Facebook page, the restaurant where the event was held issued a statement.

As a result of today’s tragedy, we will be closed until further notice. Please respect our privacy while we mourn and try to process the events that occurred today. Thank you,” the statement said.
