Among Other Things, Dejounte Murray And Paolo Banchero Are At Odds Over A Highlight Dunk, Instagram Followers, And Double-Teams

There is no doubt that the NBA offseason has officially entered its slowest period of the year.

While the NBA waits to see if a trade for Kevin Durant will happen that may or may not happen, the only interesting thing that is happening in August is when NBA players participate in their local pro-ams.

The NBA has already seen LeBron James and DeMar DeRozan take on the Drew League, Bones Hyland dropped 62 points during a run in Maryland, and the top two picks in the draft, Paolo Banchero and Chet Holmgren share the court in Jamal Crawford’s league.

There is now a beef between the pro-ams. There was an incident between Banchero and Dejounte Murray in the Zeke End Tournament, which was organized by fellow Seattle native Isaiah Thomas and where things got so heated that the players ended up unfollowing each other on Instagram as a result. It’s the only way you can tell if it’s real or not.

There was a lot of jawing between Banchero and Murray as they faced off one another all night long. As of right now, Murray and Zach LaVine are two of the best Seattle natives in the league, but Banchero is up next after becoming the first pick in the 2022 NBA Draft.

There is no doubt that Murray was not pleased with Banchero’s smack talk during the game.

There was a point in the run when Murray got Banchero with a nasty ball fake, threw him an alley-oop off the glass, dunked it, and then barked at him in the face.

I think that’s an incredible highlight, but Murray seems a little intense for a pro-am game, doesn’t he? In the aftermath of the game, the beef became public as Murray’s dunk became a viral sensation.

As Banchero posted on his Instagram account, Murray unfollowed him and told him to guard him without a double team the next time they meet.

Murray said Banchero has changed since he was a kid growing up in Seattle, and he is no longer the humble kid he once knew.

Banchero hasn’t even played an official NBA minute yet.

As Murray checked out of the game, he was recorded calling Banchero soft.

There is a strong sense of community among Seattle hoopers, so seeing something like this is a bit shocking. The Hawks vs. Magic games will be more interesting next season since there will be a little more intrigue involved.

The full highlights of Murray and Banchero’s performance at the Zeke End Tournament can be viewed here:

This is the point in the summer when the only interesting thing happening in the NBA is the pro-am beef between the American and Canadian teams. It can’t come soon enough for the season to begin.
