Firefighters were called to the scene of an active fire in Laurel, California, Thursday morning, and authorities on the scene stated that it was unrelated to a separate incident that had occurred earlier in the day in the town.

An alarm was raised at approximately 10:00 a.m. in regards to the fire. A chainsaw was seen being used by fire crews to enter the building near 5th and Elm Streets by using a chainsaw to gain access to the building.

It was still possible to see smoke coming from the roof of the house at 11:45 a.m.

Other information regarding the cause of the fire or any possible injuries that may have occurred was not immediately available.

A separate incident on Elm Street remains under investigation by law enforcement just blocks away from where this incident occurred.

Since Thursday morning, there has been a large police presence in Laurel.

There has been a large police presence in the Laurel area since the early morning hours of Thursday morning.

Although there has been no comment from the Nebraska State Patrol regarding the current situation, it has been reported that a crime scene has been set up in the Cedar County community in northeast Nebraska.

There is also a deputy from the Cedar County Sheriff’s Office on the scene at the moment. There appears to be a concentration of law enforcement near the area of 3rd and Elm Street, though the perimeter extends well beyond the area around that intersection.

At approximately 3:00 a.m. on Thursday morning, several witnesses reported seeing or hearing an explosion. It was observed by the middle of Thursday morning that officials with hazmat suits were walking toward the site.

A lockdown has been imposed on local businesses and other buildings in the city of Laurel. It has been reported that a teacher training program in Wakefield is also currently affected, with witnesses in Wakefield stating that the school there is on lockdown too.

A number of first responders left the scene to respond to a fire that was active on the same street, although the investigation remains active. There is no connection between the fire and the incident, according to the authorities.
