It appears that Penn State quarterback Sean Clifford suffered an injury to his left knee during the third quarter of Thursday’s game.

After being examined by trainers in the PSU locker room, the 6th year quarterback was able to return with less than eight minutes left in the third quarter.

In the third quarter, with Penn State leading Purdue, 21-17, when Clifford was absent, a highly coveted 5-star recruit named Drew Allar replaced Clifford at quarterback.

The team’s defense was on the field for its first series in the second half against the Boilermakers when Clifford took a low hit from a Purdue defender and jogged off the field and into the locker room with a Penn State football trainer.

During the first two-quarters of the game, Clifford went 8 out of 15 passing with 141 yards and two touchdowns, including a 67-yard pass to close out the first half.

Clifford sustained another prominent injury during a road game last season, in Penn State’s eventual loss to Iowa, but he was able to return to play in 13 games, passing for 3,107 yards with 28 touchdowns and 8 interceptions in 2021, a career-best for him.

During Penn State’s recruiting class this past offseason, Allar was a key player, coming in as a near consensus 5-star prospect from Medina, Ohio, which is approximately 30 miles from Cleveland.
