Milestones keep rolling in one after another. It has been reported that “Top Gun: Maverick” has collected $679 million in North America, which is enough to surpass Marvel’s “Avengers: Infinity War” ($678 million) as the sixth-highest grossing film in domestic box office history.

Considering the fact that 2018’s every-hero-and-the-kitchen-sink superhero adventure “Avengers: Infinity War” had some help building up anticipation for it, it’s especially impressive.

The movie served as the first part of an epic trilogy (2019’s “Endgame” was the second part) that culminated in more than 20 movies – most of which were box office juggernauts in their own right – released over a decade ago. I mean, talk about hype.

It is true that “Maverick” had Tom Cruise, who is an icon in his own right in terms of box office success.

In spite of that, moviegoers hadn’t felt the need for speed in more than 30 years and the sequel to 1986’s “Top Gun” was far from a sure thing to be a hit with audiences.

In spite of this, thanks to stellar word-of-mouth and repeat customers, “Maverick” continues to defy the odds. I believe there is a good chance that the movie will continue to fly higher on the box office charts in the near future.

Is there any possibility that the “Top Gun” follow-up will surpass 2018’s blockbuster “Black Panther” with its $700.4 million tally to crack the top five domestic grosser of all time?

There would certainly be a bit of endurance required at this point, but it is certainly not out of the question.

Due to the fact that “Top Gun 2” doesn’t have a ton of competition coming up, the film is likely to continue selling tickets for a long time to come.

The box office is expected to be fairly desolate until November when “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” opens in theaters.

The original superhero sensation is likely to be re-released by Disney in anticipation of the sequel, which could propel “Black Panther’s” grosses even higher as a result.

Despite this, “Maverick” has a reputation for overcoming the impossible, and has done so time and again.

On the international stage, “Top Gun: Maverick” has generated more than $700 million – and that’s without the Chinese and Russian markets, which are two of the largest overseas markets in the world.

The top-earning territories outside of North America include the United Kingdom ($95 million), Japan ($82 million), Korea ($62 million), Australia ($60 million), and France ($52.8 million).

To date, it has earned $1.379 billion in global gross sales, which makes it the 13th-highest grossing movie of all time.

It is significant that when “Top Gun: Maverick” was released on the big screen in May, it set a new Memorial Day weekend opening record with a gross of $160.5 million.

After staying on the top five of the weekend charts for a total of 10 weeks, the film dropped to sixth place in its 11th weekend before miraculously returning to the No. 2 spot in its 12th weekend. “It’s like this. Yes, it does. It is not.

According to Jeff Bock, a media analyst with Exhibitor Relations, the event will happen, and he wrote it on Twitter.

Among the film’s many records, the movie is Cruise’s first movie to surpass $100 million in a single weekend at the box office, and it is his first film to reach $1 billion at the worldwide box office in the same weekend.

There is no doubt that the movie star is being rewarded handsomely for his part in reviving the nation’s cinemas.

By the time “Maverick” is out of theaters and hits Paramount+, Cruise is expected to earn at least $100 million from ticket sales, his salary, and his eventual cut of home entertainment rentals and streaming revenues by the time the film comes to an end.

Kosinski directed the long-delayed sequel to the long-running Top Gun, which picks up decades after the original and follows Cruise’s Pete “Maverick” Mitchell as he trains a young group of aviators to complete a dangerous mission.

As part of the cast, Miles Teller, Glen Powell, Jon Hamm, Jennifer Connelly, and Val Kilmer, the actor who played Iceman in the first movie, are all featured.
