After five hours of quizzing at the Nizam Palace office of CBI in Kolkata, CBI had arrested Hossain, the guard of Birbhum district president Mondal, known to have proximity with Mondal, in connection with multi-crore cattle smuggling scam.
Several houses, including apartments in New Town, huge amounts of gold and landed property have been allegedly traced by the central agency during the probe, agency sources said. The allegations against Hossain also include acquiring property in his name which is disproportionate to his known sources of income.
It can be noted that Hossain was earlier quizzed several times for his alleged connection in a cattle smuggling case.
The agency also conducted searches at Hossain’s house in Murshidabad district. Hossain works as a personal security to Mondal, who has also been quizzed in the same.
In May, the agency had questioned Trinamool heavyweight Anubrata Mondal. The CBI filed a case against BSF commandant Satish Kumar and several others in September 2020, in connection with illegal cattle trade along the India-Bangladesh border in the state.
