2022 U.S. Open purse and prizes: Matt Fitzpatrick's payout, each golfer's reward from $17.5 million pool

2022 U.S. Open prize money: $17.5 million payout A record-breaking purse was announced by the U.S. Golf Association today

As always in golf -- and the USGA had plenty of talking to do this week when CEO Mike Whan announced a significant boost for the 2022 U.S. Open purse.

With an increase of $5 million year over year, the U.S. Open will pay out $17.5 million. This is the largest purse in the history of major championships.

It was Matt Fitzpatrick who took advantage of those soaring funds to win the US Open by one stroke over Will Zalatoris and Scottie Scheffler.

The tournament paid Fitzpatrick $3.15 million in winner's share, nearly $500,000 more than the $15 million purses Scottie Scheffler and Justin Thomas received at the Masters and PGA Championship.

2021 U.S. Open champion Jon Rahm won $2.25 million, so the USGA increased its payouts by $900,000...

For their efforts at The Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts, all top 20 finishers will receive over $200,000.
