On Saturday, Beckham supported his former Browns quarterback, Mayfield, as he made his Panthers debut, roughly nine months after he ended his own messy relationship with Cleveland.
Beckham commented on the NFL's official page about Mayfield's Panthers uniform, “Go shine!!!!!!!!! ”
In Saturday's 23-21 win over Washington, Mayfield completed four of seven attempts for 45 yards and zero touchdowns.
Rashard Higgins caught an 8-yard touchdown pass from Mayfield's opponent, former Jets quarterback Sam Darnold.
After the game, Panthers coach Matt Rhule said both signal-callers "played well." "Sam got us into the end zone, Baker got us down the field," Rhule said. It looked like both guys played well.”
On Friday night, the Panthers will continue their quarterback competition against the New England Patriots.
For two-and-a-half seasons, Beckham, 29, and Mayfield, 27, played together in Cleveland. Despite making the playoffs in 2020, the Browns struggled amid rumors of discord between Beckham and Mayfield.
Last November, Beckham was released by the Browns and signed with the eventual Super Bowl champion Rams.
In March, Cleveland traded for then-Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson as a replacement for Mayfield, who struggled with injuries during his 2021 campaign.
A four-month wait after he requested a trade from the Browns led to Mayfield's trade to the Panthers in July. In Week 1 of the regular season, the Panthers will host the Browns.
