With its current championship core of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green, the Golden State Warriors are a bit strapped for cash this summer.

As well as Thompson and Green, Jordan Poole and Andrew Wiggins will also receive new contracts soon.

Just to retain their services, we have to pay a ridiculous luxury tax for all four of them. As early as August 3rd, Green will be eligible for a new contract.

Green, according to sources who spoke with The Athletic's Anthony Slater and Marcus Thompson II, believes he deserves a five-year deal worth $164.2 million.

In a season where Green struggled at times and hasn't averaged more than eight points a game, that's a lot of money for him.

The Warriors have no plans to offer Green a maximum extension, and there is currently no traction towards any extension.

Warriors' hesitation to extend Green this offseason may have less to do with the team's perception of Green's value and more to do with the timetable Golden State typically takes to extend players.

A maximum extension is usually signed by the Warriors after a player has one year left on his current contract, according to Slater and Thompson II.

The four-year extension Green signed before the 2019 season technically has two years left, but he can opt out before the end of that deal this season.

Additionally, Green's current contract includes a 15 percent trade kicker if the Warriors trade him.

While the rest of the league concentrates on the Kevin Durant sweepstakes, Green and the Warriors prepare to defend their title.
