Like Black Adam, Dwayne Johnson is putting up a fight. A DC universe feature film based on the antihero will feature The Rock and it was he who fought for his character to have his own origin story.
It was a combination of Black Adam and Shazam: Two origin stories in one movie," Johnson told Vanity Fair.
This was the goal, so it wasn't a complete surprise. As soon as I read that, I knew in my gut, "We can't make this movie like this.".

After talking to studio executives, Johnson suggested splitting the characters into separate films and reuniting them in a future showdown.
"I said, 'I must share my thoughts here. Everyone said, 'This script sounds great, let's make it.' I said, 'I think you should make Shazam! on its own, in the tone you want.'"
Johnson won, and Shazam! The two films, Suicide Squad and Black Adam, will be standalone films within the same DC universe, giving fans what they are looking for.
Warner Bros. has set October 21, 2022 as the release date for their movie Black Adam.
