F1 French Grand Prix 2022: Max Verstappen Wins, Lewis Hamilton Second

On Sunday, Leclerc was dominant at Circuit Paul Ricard, qualifying first and keeping Verstappen and Hamilton at bay.

Verstappen was never threatened by the chasing pack thanks to the Monegasque driver's mistake on lap 18 on which he lost the back end and crashed into the tyre wall.

George Russell sneaked third place behind Hamilton following Sergio Perez's virtual safety car, giving Mercedes a weekend to celebrate.

Ferrari's confused race strategy ultimately resulted in Carlos Sainz taking P5 when he looked like he had a podium shot.

After Leclerc spun into the barrier after holding off some early pressure from Verstappen, there was stunned silence in the Ferrari garage.

'I will get on top of my mistakes,' says Leclerc

At the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, Leclerc was battling Perez's Red Bull and looking strong before a mistake at the chicane at Turn 14-15 damaged the car. Sixth place was his best finish.

There were seven at Imola and 25 here, so if we lose the championship by 32 points at the end of the season, I will know where they are coming from. This is unacceptable. That's all I need to do."
