The family of the late actor Bill Paxton has settled a wrongful death lawsuit against a Los Angeles hospital and the surgeon who performed his heart surgery shortly before he died in 2017.
The lawsuit against Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, filed more than four years ago, was scheduled for trial next month.
They filed a notice in Los Angeles Superior Court that they had settled the case with Louise Paxton, Paxton's wife of 30 years, and their two children, James and Lydia.
According to plaintiffs' lawyers Bruce Broillet and Steve Heimberg, the matter has been resolved to their mutual satisfaction.
According to the attorneys, the terms are confidential. The defendants did not respond to emails seeking comment. A judge must still approve the agreement.
On February 11, 2017, Paxton, who starred in films such as "Apollo 12," "Titanic," and "Aliens," died.
According to his death certificate, he died of a stroke 11 days after he underwent surgery to replace a heart valve and repair aorta damage.
Dr. Ali Khoynezhad was sued a year later for using a "high risk, unconventional surgical approach" that was unnecessary, he lacked the experience to perform, and he downplayed the procedure's risks.
As a result of Khoynezhad's maverick surgeries and suboptimal judgment, Cedars-Sinai asserted that Paxton suffered excessive bleeding, cardiogenic shock, and coronary artery disease.
Paxton's family sought more discovery evidence from the hospital frequently during the four-year legal battle, and frequent court hearings were held.
Paxton's career spanned nearly 30 years, including roles in "The Twister," "Weird Science," and the CBS drama series "Training Day." At the time of his death, he was starring in "Training Day."
