SS Jackson Holliday was selected No. 1 overall by the Baltimore Orioles in the 2022 MLB draft by the team with the top pick

As the Baltimore Orioles have experienced a number of futility-filled seasons in recent years, there is some light at the end of the tunnel.

A year ago, they lost 110 games and earned the first overall pick in the 2022 MLB draft. They chose prep shortstop Jackson Holliday of Stillwater, Oklahoma with that pick on Sunday.

It was recognized that Holliday, son of seven-time MLB All-Star outfielder Matt Holliday, was the Oklahoma prep player of the year in 2022, breaking J.T.

The junior batted .685/.749/1.392 while hitting 17 home runs and driving in 89 runs in just 41 games.

Having lost at least 100 games in each of the past three full MLB seasons, the Orioles are no strangers to picking high in the first round.

The O's have put together a 10-game winning streak that puts them above .500 for the first time since 2017 with the debut of 2019's No. 1 overall pick Adley Rutschman.
