The fight between Orion Cosce and Mike Mathetha had been called the "Blood Diamond" fight since Cosce was 1.5 pounds overweight.
With Cosce and Blood Diamond both looking for their first UFC victory - after being lined up twice before - the fight would go forward.
After a touch of gloves, both fighters entered the octagon. Blood Diamond opened the fight with a low kick, followed by a high kick from Cosce.
A front kick from Blood Diamond and a hook from Cosce were blocked. Diamond stuffed Cosco's takedown attempt. Diamond was pushed against the fence by Cosce.
About two minutes into the match, Diamond reversed Cosce. After Cosce landed a trip takedown, Diamond fought back. Cosce landed another takedown in side control.
Diamond got back up with less than a minute left. After landing a belly-to-back suplex, Cosce didn't do much with it. After the round ended, both fighters were back in the center of the octagon.
Round two began with a low kick from Blood Diamond. Cosce clinched after Blood Diamond landed a punch 30 seconds into the round. Blood Diamond was pushed against the fence by Cosce.
They reversed each other after about 20 seconds. After two minutes of the second, Cosce landed an elbow from the clinch. Eventually, Blood Diamond broke away and landed a body kick.
Both men looked pretty tired with two minutes left. Blood Diamond injured Cosce with an elbow and a front kick. "Galaxy" returned with a back fist; Diamond struck Cosce with a spinning back fist.
Diamond clinched, but Cosce was wobbly. He landed a knee that hurt Cosce as well, and he began to light him up. By clinching with Diamond, Cosce survived.
In round three, both fighters were sluggish. Blood Diamond responded with a jab of his own after Cosce landed a jab. Cosce put Diamond against the fence again and then took him down.
As Diamond got up, Cosce jumped on his back. Then they would go back down. Diamond defended against Cosco's arm triangle. Blood Diamond was completely controlled by Cosce at the end of the round.
