According to Alex Jones, conspiracy theorist, he now understands that declaring Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre a hoax was irresponsible of him, because it was "100% real."
According to Alex Jones, the attack happened after parents of a 6-year-old boy killed in 2012 testified about their suffering, death threats, and harassment resulting from Jones' media platforms.
Now that I have met the parents, this is especially true. His media company, Free Speech Systems, was serving a court order for defamation against Neil Heslin and Scarlett Lewis.
The Newtown, Connecticut school shooting was one of the deadliest attacks in the history of the United States.
Heslin and Lewis, however, said an apology would not suffice and Jones needed to be held accountable for repeatedly spreading falsehoods about the attack. A minimum of $150 million is sought.
"Any compensation over $2 million will sink us," Jones told the jury, but he added: "I think it's appropriate for whatever you decide to do."
The testimony concluded around midday on Wednesday, and closing arguments are expected to begin shortly thereafter.
Jones is the only witness in his own defense. He was asked by his attorney if he now understood it was "absolutely irresponsible" to claim the massacre did not occur.
Jones has already attempted to protect Free Speech Systems financially. Last week, the company filed for bankruptcy protection.
There have been separate lawsuits filed by Sandy Hook families over Jones' financial claims, claiming the company is trying to protect millions owned by Jones and his family.
