A knee injury forced Penn State quarterback Sean Clifford to leave Thursday's game in the third quarter.

After being examined by trainers in the locker room of PSU, the 6th year quarterback returned with under 8 minutes left in the third quarter.

When Penn State led Purdue, 21-17, in the third quarter, 5-star recruit Drew Allar briefly filled in at quarterback.

The team's defense was on the field for its first 2nd half series against the Boilermakers when Clifford took a low hit from a Purdue defender and jogged off the field and into the locker room.

Clifford passed for 141 yards and two touchdowns in the first two quarters, including a 67-yard touchdown pass.

In 2021, Clifford suffered another prominent injury while playing for Penn State against Iowa, but he returned to play in 13 games, passing for 3,107 yards with 28 touchdowns and eight interceptions.

This past offseason, Allar was a major piece of Penn State's recruiting class, coming in as a near consensus 5-star prospect from Medina, Ohio.
