In the fourth quarter of the Cleveland Browns' second preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles, fourth-round rookie Perrion Winfrey headed to the locker room with trainers.

At this point in time, the nature of the injury that caused him to leave the game is still unclear..

The Browns view him as one of their top four defensive tackles. He is Taven Bryan's backup at three-tech. With Bryan and Jordan Elliott out, Winfrey, Tommy Togiai, Roderick Perry, and Ben Logan played

In addition to not playing in the first quarter, Winfrey was invisible for much of the game he did play. Right before he left the game, he generated some pressure.

The former Oklahoma Sooner could use all the reps he can get coming out of college. As long as the injury is minor, the Browns should be fully fit for their season opener against the Carolina Panthers

Winfrey is athletic, but his technique and consistency need improvement. As a young player, he appeals to the Browns, but his availability in the fourth round might also explain his appeal.

It is the Browns' hope that Winfrey can be a productive player like a fellow rookie and third-round pick Alex Wright. He is expected to contribute this season, which could be a problem for the Browns.

We will let you know as soon as details about Winfrey's injury become available so that you can keep up to date.
