A weekend series between the New York Yankees and the St. Louis Cardinals will be played this weekend.

If you want to return home, you can always do so. The lesson is being learned by Matt Carpenter this weekend.

Carpenter is now the DH for the New York Yankees, and the Yankees will play three games this weekend against Carpenter's former team, the St. Louis Cardinals.

Carp returns to St. Louis for the first time since leaving after the 2021 season and 11 years wearing the Bird on the Bat.

It didn't take Carpenter long to make his first plate appearance on Friday night, batting third in the lineup. Fans gave Carpenter a nearly 45-second standing ovation.

As a result of his single, a runner moved from first to third on a 3-2 count. The hit was Carpenter's first of two on Friday night.

Carpenter met with members of the media before the game on Friday. On two occasions, he got emotional when asked about his family's reaction to returning home.

"Just stepping off the plane [Thursday] night and being back in St. Louis started it all for me," he said at the press conference on Friday.

"My family will be here, and I haven't seen many Cardinals players yet, but that will be hard, for sure. There are a lot of special memories here.
