Quinn Ewers will enter game week as the Texas Longhorns' starting quarterback, one of the most prominent positions in the state.

Ewers was named the starter by head coach Steve Sarkisian on Aug. 19. Sarkisian will have a redshirt freshman start at quarterback for a season opener for the second straight year.

For Ewers, taking the field as the starter is fulfilling a dream he's had since he was a kid. The opportunity excites me," Ewers said. "God has blessed me, and I am elated and humbled."

Although Ewers is young, he carries an aura of confidence and has a laid-back personality, but he understands that leading a team requires him to step outside of his comfort zone sometimes.

Just over a week from starting his first game since the 2020 6A Division 2 title game, Ewers says he doesn't feel the jitters.

I'm excited. "I'm not anxious," Ewers said. Obviously, there will be butterflies in the locker room and with that first play, but after that, it'll be back to basics."

"Some of his throws on third down and some of his plays in the pocket are like, 'OK, we're taking another step here,'" Sarkisian said. We're beginning to make the strides I hoped for."
