In a tragic incident, Luke Knox, brother of Buffalo Bills' Dawson Knox and a college football player, passed away at the age of 22

Florida International University has announced that Knox, who joined the university's football team in the summer, was found in medical distress in his dorm room by friends.

It was announced Wednesday evening that Luke Knox, a Florida International University football player and the brother of Buffalo Bills' Dawson Knox, had passed away at the age of 22.

"A friend found Luke in his dorm room in medical distress," FIU Police Captain Delrish Moss told NBC News. Miami-County Fire Rescue took him to a local hospital where he died.

Knox previously played football at the University of Mississippi. Dawson played college football at the University of Mississippi as well.

In a video statement posted on FIU's Twitter account, Interim President Kenneth Jessell said, "Today, the FIU community grieves the loss of a Panther student athlete, Luke Knox."

Luke's untimely death is deeply felt by his FIU family, his friends, classmates, teammates, coaches and mentors.

Detective Chris Thomas told NBC News that no foul play is suspected in Knox's death. Knox's cause of death has not yet been determined by the Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner's Office.

During a press conference on Thursday, Buffalo Bills' Head Coach Sean McDermott mourned the 22-year-old's passing.
