The result of England vs Germany is a historic win for the Lionesses in UEFA Women's EURO 2022 thanks to Chloe Kelly's heroics

At Wembley, England won the Women's EURO 2022 with a 2-1 victory over Germany, with Chloe Kelly scoring the winning goal.

In total, 87,192 people attended the Euro final, the highest attendance for a men's or women's final. Both teams had impressive defenses, so it took extra time to separate them.

The Keira Walsh slide-rule pass pits England against the eight-time European champions. The added half hour was forced by Lena Magal, the third goal of the tournament.

Another sub - Kelly - made herself a legend by bundling the ball over the line, and then stripping off her shirt in celebration, simulating Brandi Chastain.

During the 1999 Women's World Cup final, delirious Chloe Kelly ripped off her shirt and twirled it around her head, just as Brandi Chastain did after scoring the winning penalty.

In the final, England would have expected to face Alexandra Popp, the Germany striker who had scored in every match of the campaign. She was Beth Mead's closest challenger for the Golden Boot.

Popp had four of her six goals of the tournament from her head, so that would have involved a strong aerial threat.

However, seconds before kickoff, Popp was ruled out due to an injury sustained in warmups. She was replaced by Lea Schuller, whose pace and tricky feet made her a very different threat.
