There was no explanation for Malik's exclusion in the BCCI release. It is speculated that the former captain was rested after requesting a break. In the past few months, he's taken two rest periods.
Following the IPL, he played in India's home T20I series against South Africa. He was also rested for the opening T20I against England in Southampton following the rescheduled fifth Test.
