After defeating Cristian Garin of Chile in straight sets on Wednesday at Wimbledon, Nick Kyrgios reached his first Grand Slam semi-final.

In the final, the world number 40 will meet either Rafael Nadal or Taylor Fritz after winning 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 (7/5) on Tuesday. Kyrgios said, "I never imagined I'd be in the semi-final of a Grand Slam.

There was a time when I thought the ship had sailed, that perhaps I had wasted this small window in my career."

"The performance we put on here today was awesome, and I was really happy to be able to participate with my team."

Having played on the back foot much of the match, I felt I was playing on the back foot. Garin's a very good player, so I received some lucky breaks and will prepare for my next match."

Since Lleyton Hewitt in 2005, Kyrgios is the first Australian man into the semis at Wimbledon since he defeated Nadal eight years ago as a 144th-ranked wild card.

He has also had a rollercoaster ride at the 2022 Wimbledon. It was a brilliant, crowd-pleasing shot that sparked a $14,000 fine as well as a bitter spat with Stefanos Tsitsipas in the third round.

In the opening stages of Wednesday's match, the 27-year-old showed signs of distraction as Garin scored nine points.

"My team plays a crucial role in my success. No one knows my tennis better than I do, I've been playing since I was seven.
