As part of a live interview, Peyton Reed, director of the upcoming Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania movie, cuts one of the film’s actors, Tom Scharpling, during the performance.

There’s a video clip taken from The Best Show podcast where Reed sits down with host Tom Scharpling and discusses his contributions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with him.

It is during the chat that the director reveals Scharpling’s unfortunate history with the Ant-Man franchise, noting that Scharpling filmed scenes for both the first and second movies that were ultimately cut from the film.

Reed delivers some unfortunate news to the host when the topic of Quantumania comes up during the discussion. In Reed’s words, “This is not a joke.

This is serious.”. As Reed explained to Scharpling, “So we’ve had to cut the scene we were planning to shoot, which was going to take place in San Francisco.

I don’t want to spoil anything, but it’s true. After hearing the news, Scharpling is visibly disappointed, as Reed apologizes for his mistake, admitting that he shouldn’t have broken the news in a live interview.

As of the time of writing, the nature of the cut scene is unknown at the time of writing. Also, it was unclear whether Scharpling’s character was the same character that was eventually left out of Ant-Man and Ant-Man and The Wasp, nor whether the character he played was the same character that was ultimately excluded from Ant-Man and Ant-Man and The Wasp.

This is in contrast to Scott Lang’s debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, wherein the superhero originally purchased a lottery ticket from Scharpling, but in the sequel, Scott Lang appeared as Burch’s SUV driver in a moment described as “uncuttable” by the comic.

It is true that Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania does not feature a cameo by Scharpling, but Reed has previously stated that the movie is packed with plenty of references and Easter eggs that fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe should be happy with.

I think there’s going to be a lot of fun for everyone and some surprises may be waiting for them in the Quantum Realm,” Reed said. The team is very excited about this, so yes, we are very excited about this.”

As well as these appearances, the director of Quantumania teased that the events of Quantumania will have a major effect on the sprawling superhero franchise since Quantumania marks the beginning of Phase 5.

It’s a very exciting time for us because we’re in the Ant-Man movies. This is our third movie. It’s really exciting for us to kick off Phase 5 of the series.” Reed said. “It’s already a trilogy, but there are things that are going to happen in this movie that will have a lasting impact on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And for us as writers, it’s pretty cool that Scott Lang is at the center of that change.”

In theaters on Feb. 17, 2023, Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania will be released.
