Lockdown At Mall Of America Lifted After Shots Fired: Police

It was reported Thursday that shots were fired at the Mall of America in Minnesota, sending shoppers running for safety as they attempted to flee the shopping center.

An “active incident” was reported on the northwest side of the mall on Thursday evening, and the Bloomington Police Department responded by tweeting that “numerous officers are on the scene” at that time.

Approximately one hour after the incident occurred, the police department said that the scene had been secured by officers.

According to police, a suspect has not been apprehended, and no injuries have been reported as a result of this incident.

Chief Booker Hodges of the Bloomington Police Department said during a press conference that shots were fired near the Nike store, and officers were on the scene within 30 seconds of the shots being fired.

As we watched the video, we were able to see two groups getting into some type of altercation at the cash register of the Nike store, Hodges said.

As soon as one of the groups left, they chose to display a complete lack of respect for human life by opening fire into a store filled with people instead of walking away.

They shot multiple rounds into the store for the sake of displaying their disrespect for human life.

According to the chief, no one has yet been found who is responsible for the crime.

Twitter is reporting that “this is an isolated incident,” the department said in a tweet. It was reported that the suspect fled the MOA on foot and that officers are interviewing witnesses as a result.

Earlier this evening, the Mall of America announced via Twitter that it had been placed on lockdown “as a result of a confirmed isolated incident” at one of its tenants.

Video footage taken by shoppers of the mall shows people sheltering in place, including a large crowd in the basement of the mall, as they prepare for the storm.

There has been a lifting of the lockdown since the lockdown was imposed. On the mall’s second level, shoppers have been asked to wait for an escort, while all other shoppers have been advised to leave the mall.
