There are many different versions of the fourth-generation Toyota Yaris depending on where you live.

You can choose between a three-door hatchback, a five-door hatchback, a high-riding Yaris Cross, and in some regions of the world, you can also get a high-performance Gazoo Racing (GR) spicy derivative.

As well as the hatchback, there is going to be a new sedan for emerging markets in addition to a rebadged Mazda2. There was a debut of the subcompact saloon in Thailand this week.

It is known as the Yaris Ativ, and serves as a solid alternative to B-segment crossovers with a host of great features for an impressively affordable price, ranging between $15,300 to $19,500 (converted from Thai Baht) based on the trim level selected.

It goes without saying that the base Sport model is equipped with 16-inch alloy wheels and LED headlights, as well as an eight-inch touchscreen and a start button, which all come standard.

As you step up to the Smart, the infotainment system expands to nine inches, and Toyota also adds a dashcam and USB ports at the rear of the car.

With the Premium trim, the subcompact sedan is equipped with automatic climate control and rear air conditioning vents, as well as adaptive cruise control.

There is a Pioneer sound system available as part of the range-topping Premium Luxury trim.

The Yaris Ativ also comes with a pre-collision warning system and Front/Lane Departure Alert as standard, with even more safety features available on higher-end trims, so Toyota doesn’t skimp on safety at all.

Besides supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the infotainment system also has ambient lighting in 64 different colors on the top trim level.

Besides the standard fabric seats, there are synthetic and genuine leather upholsteries available as an upgrade from the standard fabric seats.

There are a variety of exterior upgrades available, such as stripes and two different types of spoilers for the trunk lid.

I am aware that the Yaris Ativ wasn’t developed to break the record for the fastest sedan around the Nürburgring, but that is not to say that it wasn’t developed.

Powered by a naturally aspirated 1.2-liter four-cylinder engine with 94 horsepower (69 kW) at 6,000 rpm and 110 Nm (81 lb-ft) of torque at 4,400 rpm, the vehicle’s torque is delivered to the wheels through a continuously variable transmission.

There is a Sport mode for some reason, but what is more important are the disc brakes that come standard all around.

As expected, the suspension is fairly basic, with a MacPherson strut up front and a torsion beam at the rear.

The Yaris Ativ stands out in a sea of SUVs claiming to be something they are not and would make a great competitor to the Dacia Logan in Europe if it were offered there.

The Toyota Gateway Plant is located in Thailand, where the production will take place, and the cars will be exported to over 35 countries from there.
