Ric Flair has spoken out about the rampant steroid use he saw during his first WWE run, claiming it was a "way of life" for many stars.

Physically or through flamboyant presentation, wrestling has always been about portraying larger-than-life characters. Therefore, many would-be stars were looking for ways to stand out.

In order to achieve this, it was common to create a look that was almost superhuman and beyond the reach of the average person. Steroids were used by many stars to achieve this.

In the early 1990s, WWE was taken under the microscope following the steroid trials that gripped the company in the early 1990s.

As a result of Dr George Zahorian's conviction for illegally supplying anabolic steroids in 1991, Vince McMahon was indicted for distributing steroids in 1993.

WWE tightened its drug policy during this time, resulting in smaller stars such as Bret Hart being heavily featured, and the Ultimate Warrior and British Bulldog leaving due to the fallout.

In his To Be The Man podcast, Ric Flair reflected on his first run with WWE, which lasted from 1991 until 1993.

In his statement, Flair stated that steroid use had become a "way of life" for many, not just in the world of professional sports but also in the world of wrestling.

As Flair stated in another episode of the show, the Ultimate Warrior should have never been inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in the first place.
